Economic Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Economic - Essay Example Price is deterrent to consumersââ¬â¢ consumption spending but serves as a motivation for the producers and sellers at the same time. However, their behaviors tend to vary on the responsiveness to price changes or elasticity of the goods and services in question and can be influenced by several factors present in the economy. In the end, rationality will be the guiding principle for both the consumers and the producers in making economic decisions. This paper tries to examine the factors related to changes in price of beef and the behaviors of both consumers and suppliers of beef towards it. In analyzing price elasticity of the demand and supply of beef, discussions on market price, determinants of price elasticity of demand and supply were also made. Related articles on demand and supply of food and grains like corn are utilized to achieve the goal of producing an intelligent analysis of the issues reflected in the article. And for better understanding of some of these economic co ncepts, illustrated graphs were also used to help in serving the purpose. 3. Analysis A. Market Price One of the economic goals that are widely, if not accepted in our society and in many others is the price level stability (McConnell and Brue 1993). This goal aims to avoid the sizable upswings or downswings in the general price level. In a microeconomic perspective, this goal is reached when changes in the market prices are manageable and donââ¬â¢t hurt consumers and producers that much. As price is the quantity of money paid by the buyers or consumers and received by the sellers or producers for a unit of good or service, it is very important for it to be stable. We need to analyze market prices to extend our understanding of demand and supply and to see the relative efficiency of these in allocating resources. A rise or fall in market prices will have a corresponding effect or impact to the people in the economy. In the article, the rise in beef price inflicted by high corn pri ces, more exports to protein-hungry nations and the market forces of supply and demand, is causing a pain being felt by beef lovers nationwide. But since some customers like Beth Belling from Omaha are carnivore, they have to have their beef even if hurts them a little more. Retailers are also affected by the increasing beef price but they reported that they are absorbing some of the cost increasesââ¬â as much as $1 a pound for many cuts of beef ââ¬â to keep consumers buying. Ruth Comer, a spokeswoman for West Des Moines-based Hy-Vee Supermarkets, said that they try to flatten out the price curve as much as they can so the customers donââ¬â¢t experience sticker shock when they come in store. They also believe that passing price increases along is going to prompt customers to pull back and stop buying or look elsewhere. Restaurant operators also say that higher prices of beef squeeze their finances as they become reluctant to raise menu prices. B. Price Elasticity of Deman d and Supply The responsiveness of supply and demand to any change in price is measured by the price elasticity. It is expressed as the ratio of the percentage change in the quantity demanded and supplied to the percentage change in price. This value will help us determine the degree of elasticity that a productââ¬â¢s demand or supply can have. The degree of elasticity, classified as elastic, inelastic, or unit elastic, will tell us the nature of the product (McConnell and Brue 1993). 1. Price Elasticity

The Gospel Of John's View Of The Role Of The Holy Spirit Research Paper
The Gospel Of John's View Of The Role Of The Holy Spirit - Research Paper Example This research aims at studying John's Gospel view of the Holy Spirit using the existing literature. In his article "John 14:17 and the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of John", Sloan gives a breakdown of earthly ministry of Jesus giving the leads to the permanent ââ¬Ëindwelling of the Holy Spiritââ¬â¢ among his disciples on departure to heaven. Further, Carsons (1991) gives the descriptions of ââ¬Ëthe responsibilities of the Holy Spiritââ¬â¢ during the final discourse of Jesus. It emerges that the Holy Spirit hovers through those baptized in it (known as indwelling). Furthermore, the Holy Spirit is independent of the father and the son due to the nature of the work allocated. The Holy Spirit is responsible of the Christendom and the spread of the church within boundaries and beyond. The institution of the church survives on the mercy of Holy Spirit who is responsible for this valuable task (Stott 2006). The Holy Spirit fills the followers of Christ with the yearning to know God more as the ethics dictate. The responsibilities further stretch towards the power to redeem and reconcile humans and their God whenever they wrong him (Barth 1993). The regeneration of human beings is entirely dependent on the functions of the righteous Spirit as evident from Owen's "Discourse concerning the Holy Spirit.â⬠He has more than one function as Linzey puts it in her book "The Baptism with the Holy Spirit.â⬠The illumination of the human believer's mind depends on the efforts of the divine Spirit as indicated in John 3:5. This is because the Holy Spirit knows better about God's will than any other supernatural power in existence thus engages the believers in their day-to-day activities that related to Godliness (Rogers 2009). 1 Introduction The Holy Spirit in the Gospel of John is first introduced in Chapter 1 verse 33. The functions of the Holy Spirit in a believersââ¬â¢ life are discussed in three chapters (14-16). ââ¬Å"But the helper, the Holy spirit whom the father will send in my name, He will teach you all things.â⬠These verses show the Holy Spirit as a helper and teacher. Other roles that will be discussed in this paper are the Holy Spirit as a comforter, giver of life, living water and as a reminder of Christ among other roles. This paper will also look at who is the Holy Spirit, how does one receive Him and how it is viewed in the Old Testament. This paper has considered the Holly Spirit in the perspective of the gospel of John. We have taken the entire gospel through references to the Lordââ¬â¢s Ministry as provided in the first thirteen chapters. Then, it extends to Godââ¬â¢

Computers and Speech Recognition: Techniques and Applications
Computers and Speech Recognition: Techniques and Applications Abstract Speech is the most natural and common way of communication between people. It would seem only natural that computer development would eventually progress to the point where people would want to extend the human-computer interface to include speech. Once this happened, numerous techniques were explored. The goals of speech recognition became more and more ambitious, and researchers today continue to push the limits of what computers can do with the spoken word. This paper examines the problem of computer speech recognition by looking at the steps involved in getting from a spoken word to the word's recognition by the machine. The difficulties of continuous speech recognition will be enumerated and examined, as will the most popular recognition technique used today. The analysis ends with a brief description of some of the applications of speech recognition. Introduction Simply put, speech recognition is difficult. A computer does not have a useful thing called an ear that enables it to hear sounds, or a brain to process those sounds into recognizable words and phrases. There are three main stages involved in speech recognition: preprocessing, recognition, and communication. Preprocessing involves taking the speech input and converting it into something the computer can use. During the recognition stage, the computer must identify what has been said. Finally, in the communication stage, the computer acts upon the translated input (Markowitz). There are many inherent difficulties involved in speech recognition. For example, human speech can span more than 20,000 frequencies. A computer would quickly become overwhelmed by data if it was supplied with eve... ...e applications where they could be useful. For many people in the past few years, speech recognition has moved from just being a novelty to becoming an important tool used in their everyday lives. References Books 1. Markowitz, Judith A. Arizona Senate Bill 1070
Arizona Senate Bill 1070 Our country, today, currently faces many social issues. For instance, drug abuse, child labor, gangs, homelessness, and immigration. The immigration issues is very controversial and continues to rise. Many laws and regulations are being passed to help control this issue. Recently Arizona has passed the Senate Bill 1070 which is causing major problems because it affects human rights. This law should not have been passed because it is increasing racial profiling, rebellion leading to crime, and businesses loosing money. As a person, coming from a Hispanic culture this bill affects me personally. I have family who is in this county with visitation visas or working visas. I even have an uncle with no papers. The bill itself is causing problems in their own state. Arizona is not fixing anything but only making it worst. Yes, the government is trying to get rid of people who technically do not have documentation to be here. The bill pretty much means that a police officer can stop anyone of ââ¬Å"reasonable suspicionâ⬠of being illegal. The Arizona Senate Bill 1070 states that if the authority has reasonable suspicion they may stop a person to ask for documentation (arz, gov). It also mentions all people of Hispanic decent will have to carry their legal papers just in case they are stopped. If anyone are caught transporting illegal aliens around they will be in trouble with the law. For example, transporting immigrants could be anything from giving they a ride to the store or to church. People who are housing immigrants will also face consequences. S. B. 1070 is not making the issue any better in Arizona communities, but only making it worst. Many other people argue that most of the crime committed in the United States is caused by immigrants. They feel as if they will not have to be responsible for their actions. People argue that immigrants are causing our economy to fail, and they are the reason why many Americans are unemployed. They may also argue that immigrants have caused our country to become over crowded. First of all, giving permission to stop people on a daily basis because a person is suspicious of someone who does not belong in America is just asking for more racial problems. America is known as a ââ¬Å"melting potâ⬠culture, which is a heterogeneous developed society (world dig). How could someone know if a certain person does not belong in America if we are all from different cultures? In 1939 and 1954 America showed its racisms by removing three million undocumented Mexicans. It was called the ââ¬Å"operation wetbackâ⬠(academic). It is okay to try and get rid of an issue we are having but no one should be called a term that discriminates their race. Its crazy how history repeats itself and now we have a state trying to start a movement by basically encouraging legal racial profiling. I understand punishing people who do not have legal documentation or green card, but why punish the people who travel with them to even go to the store, church, etc.? The bible mentions, ââ¬Å"love your neighborâ⬠but Arizona makes it hard to love your neighbor because a person is not going to love his Hispanic neighbor. They will not want to risk getting in trouble with the law. Many other little problems continue to rise due to the SB 1070. Also, people are going to rebel against this bill because they do not agree with it. More than half of the crime is not reported, but by placing this law, unreported crimes will surely increase. If an illegal alien gets attacked or even something worst happen they will not report it because they fear they may get deported. That itself will give criminals the feeling to aim any attacks against Hispanics because they have a less chance of getting caught. Finally, the idea of trying to get rid of all the Hispanics rapidly is not a great idea for the economy. Factories are mainly worked by Hispanics or lower poverty. Maybe it is true that Hispanics are take a lot of the jobs and leaving Americans unemployed. But, it is a fact that immigrants are working the jobs many Americans do not want to apply for. Immigrants work for less money and are not picky about having benefits. Deporting immigrants all at once will lead factories to close because its not giving them time to rehire anyone to replace the majority of Hispanics controlling the factories. It will be a domino affect of businesses loosing money.

Performance Analysis The International Basketball...
CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.0 Previous research The majority of previous research pertaining to performance analysis in basketball has been focused on the quantitative analysis of game-related statistics, commonly found in a basketball box-score (Sampaio et al., 2006). These game-related statistics include: field goal attempts, field goals made, field goal percentage, 3-point field goal attempts, 3-point field goals made, 3-point field goal percentage, free throws attempted, free throws made, free throw percentage, defensive rebounds, offensive rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, turnovers and personal fouls. The practical value of performance analysis is that well-chosen performance indicators allow good and bad techniques or team performances to be highlighted (Hughes Franks, 2008). Trinic et al. (2002) analysed the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) official performance indicators with the goal of identifying parameters that differentiated between winning and losing teams which played in the final tournaments of the European club championships from 1992 to 2000. Discriminant function structure coefficients (SC) from discriminant analysis exposed that defensive rebounds (SC = 0.42), field goal percentage (3-point field goals made SC = 0.24, 3-point field goals missed SC = -0.30, 2-point field goals made SC = 0.14 and 2-point field goals missed SC = -0.26), and free throw percentage (SC = 0.26) had the highest discriminative power respectively.Show MoreRelatedPreventing PEDs in Professional Sports Essay1198 Words à |à 5 PagesThe use of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) amo ng athletes in professional sports has caused an outrage all around the world for many years. Changing Times And Marriage. - 1746 Words
Changing Times and Marriage Hillary Becker Student Number: 8281930 University College of the North Soc2140: Social Psychology Instructor: Harvey Briggs Thompson Site About eight years ago, I went to a wonderful wedding. It was an expensive wedding; amazing food, incredible decorations, free bar, live entertainment, and the most expensive wedding dress I had ever seen. I bet the cost was well over $35,000.00. I was completely mesmerized and awestruck by the event. Then, oddest thing happened. When I was in the ladyââ¬â¢s room doing my lady business, I overheard the bride say laughingly: ââ¬Å"Well, itââ¬â¢s not like its foreverâ⬠! While I was washing my hands I could hear her voice in my head saying the traditional oath ââ¬Å"till death doâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦How did it go from almost hiding your face due to the shame of being divorced to being like half of the adult population that has been married? I do not profess to be a sociologist; for I am not smart enough to understand the concepts or capable of dressing the part, but I am very interested in how the society I live in is constantly evolving. It may be possible that the decline in permanent marriages are the result of a cultural tendency in perception that promotes individual happiness and fulfillment as the most important goal to achieve. The main reason for marriage today under this concept, is for the individual to acquire love and experience happiness. Society has put greet emphasis on achieving this goal, and that if a person is unhappy, then their life is not fulfilling and they should endeavor to make changes so that their life is fulfilling. Marriage is seen today as something that should not last forever if true happiness is not met. It has become somewhat disposable in concept. If an unhappy marriage was permanent, the door would be closed and that individual would never find self-fulfillment (Shulman, 2004) . This contemporary view of marriage creates an unrealistic myth of the importance of finding a soul mate in order to be happy and once you find this person, things will always be good. If things are not good, then you have made a mistake, an error and you need get a divorce
